Pizza Bars: Any good spots in Arlington that serve great pizza and craft beer?

FRITZ HAHN: I'm becoming more of a fan of Fire Works Pizza with every visit. A fairly outstanding list of 30 draft micros include Flying Dog and Heavy Seas, plus some rarer brews from small breweries including Terrapin. The wood-fired pies have been great, too.

One of the best new additions to the neighborhood is Fire Works Pizzeria which favors the same organic ingredients and nitrate free meats as the original location in Leesburg.

Two to try are the Smokey Blue – which marries Gorgonzola, locally made bacon, rosemary and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar – and the Virginia luau, elevated with county ham and roasted pineapple. A Caesar salad has good garlicky flavor, but ask the kitchen to go light on the dressing.

 


Fire Works Pizza open for business in Courthouse

Courthouse residents: you may have noticed your walk home smelled a little more delicious today.

That's because Fire Works American Pizzeria and Bar opened tonight, after a few hitches delayed last week's planned opening. A healthy crowd is there at the bar checking the place out, sipping craft beers and watching the kitchen pull pizzas out of the wood-fired oven with remarkable speed for the restaurant's inaugural night...
